There is an appealing history to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall wagering is not permitted. Eight casinos are anchored in a generally small area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a perfect area, a 3 to 4 hour travel from Bangkok and Macao, the two most popular wagering locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very couple of Westerners. The astonishing capital acquired from the gambling halls ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, investment sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 0900 to 5:00 p.m., and although visas are allegedly required to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is true of many border crossings.

The first Cambodia gambling halls premiered in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were forced to close in the late nineties, leaving just a single gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, an anchored ship gambling hall, contains 150 slot machines and 60 tables. The Naga gambling den never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, 4 tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in 1999 and the Golden Crown soon followed. A total of one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 one armed bandits and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slots and 70 table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machines and ninety six table games, including 87 baccarat banque (the most dominant game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Additionally, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machine games and sixty six of the normal table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the 8 gambling dens in Poipet, again in a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in an international resort and hotel building that features many conveniences aside from the casino, which provides 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight table games.
